About the Conference
The Conference of European Constitutional Courts (CECC), established in 1972, brings together 41 constitutional courts and other equivalent institutions exercising constitutional review in Europe.
The Conference originated as an initiative of the Presidents of the founding constitutional courts of Germany, Austria, and Italy, with the aim of ensuring a regular exchange of experiences in constitutional practice and jurisprudence within the European context, while placing particular emphasis on the respect for the principle of judicial independence.
Aim
The Conference promotes the exchange of information on the working methods and constitutional jurisprudence of its member courts, as well as the exchange of views on institutional, structural, and operational issues relating to public law and constitutional jurisdiction. It also undertakes initiatives aimed at strengthening the independence of constitutional courts as an essential factor in ensuring and upholding democracy and the rule of law, in particular with a view to safeguarding human rights. Furthermore, it supports efforts to maintain regular contacts among European constitutional courts and other equivalent institutions.
